Pictures coming soon!
Hopefully, I’ll be posting more pictures soon, especially since I know that overly wordy blogs can be tiresome, and since I know Syria is hard for most people who haven’t visited to visualize. I’ve had a few bad experiences in foreign countries after using my camera, most notably being robbed at gunpoint in Paraguay when I was 18 (and right next to the national parliament, no less!), but I’ve been slowly regaining my courage by reminding myself that contrary to its image in the American media, Syria is one of the safest countries in the world. Although an influx of refugees has resulted in a higher rate of petty theft, the crime rate remains extremely low and armed robbery, particularly in a public place, would be almost unthinkable. I’m also confident that in many parts of Damascus a shout for help would bring passers-by to my aid, an assumption that I can’t always make in New York.
In short, I’ve been taking some photos, and I’ll take more and hopefully post them soon.
